"THE MANY SOUTHS" - Southern Labor Studies Association, New Orleans Conference 2013
The "Work of Music" is the topic for the Southern Labor Studies Association's Keynote event.
This event will be held at the Historic New Orleans Collection, 410 Chartres St. in the French Quarter.
Friday, March 8th from 5-7pm Evan Christopher appears with Deacon John Moore, Meschiya Lake and Tom McDermott for a roundtable discussion moderated by Dr. Bruce Raeburn (Tulane’s Hogan Jazz Archive) and Thomas Adams (Tulane history dept.) followed by a musical performance and reception. The roundtable is the first of its kind and will address questions such as the importance of music and musicians to the New Orleans economy, the process by which professional musicians of all stripes make money and survive, and their relationship to intellectual property, the recording industry, promoters, club
owners, and audiences.
The Music and Labor roundtable is sponsored by Tulane’s New Orleans Center for the Gulf South and Tulane’s Department of History.
