11.02 Silver Screen Experience @ Bard College

Friday, 2 Nov, 2018
Chris Washburne’s “Rags & Roots” @ Bard College, Fisher Center: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

I’m back in NY to join trombonist Chris Washburne, who is putting the “Rags & Roots” band back together to perform an original score to the 1920 silent “horror” film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Last spring we premiered his score to a recently restored cut  at the intimate Bell House in Brooklyn, but now we’ll be on the BIG screen at Bard College’s Fisher Center.

10.06 Evanescence: Clarinet Road Welcomes Evan Arntzen

Saturday, 6 October, 2018 (8:00pm & 10pm) “Evanescence at Snug Harbor”

Don’t miss this chance to welcome young lion Evan Arntzen to New Orleans.  Our Soprano Summit-styled, dueling clarinet show will not disappoint.

This young man is one of NYC’s best reedmen specializing in early jazz. He works regularly with Vince Giordano’s Grammy-winning Nighthawks and just about anyone else you can think of that needs old-school clarinet and saxophone.  This will be his first pilgrimage to New Orleans!

9.30 Clarinet Road, 2018 NY Hot Jazz Festival

Evan Christopher at the 2018 NY Hot Jazz Festival

Sunday, 30 September 2018 (All Night)

I will be back in New York to participate in the 2018 NY Hot Jazz Festival. The annual program will be hosted by the McKittrick Hotel (not really a hotel) to celebrate early jazz in various ways. Some sublimely musical, some ridiculously campy, but something for everyone.

Around 4:15pm, I’ll be a featured guest in an ensemble directed by New Orleans-based trombonist, Charlie Halloran.

At 6:30pm, I have prepared a Soprano Summit-styled program with reedman Evan Arntzen.

Then, at the end of the affair, hang out with me for the late-night jam session.

The McKittrick Hotel (Chelsea) 542 W 27th St, 10001
