WED.23.SEP Inaugural New Orleans Jazz and Wine Show

 July 23, 2020

By  Evan

About This Event:

The duo with David Torkanowsky is partnering with Bizou Fine Wines for a new experience.  We are calling it the "New Orleans Jazz & Wine Show," and here's how it works:

...We make music while you drink wine.

But not just any wine: For each show, Bizou selects three bottles from small-production, international artisan vignerons. Upon purchasing your ticket, your bottles will be available for pick-up at Swirl Wine Bar & Market (near the Fairgrounds) anytime before showtime.

And not just any music:  The duo has become known for high-level live-streamed concert experiences.  This was a pandemic project that has slowly taken shape over twenty weeks.  We have been imagining projects that are more personal and intimate even though we can't yet be together in the same room.

In addition, when possible Bizou will let you meet the vignerons by video chat to talk about their wines.  And the duo will host special guests each week who represent the best of New Orleans music.

Yes!! This Tuesday evening, my one-year ban from Mona's Bar N.Y.C. ends and I will perform in Dennis Lichtman’s absence! No, it was never proven that the clarinet-coup last November was “planned” by me (it was *not*!), but witness accounts and cellphone video evidence showed that I instigated and incited a takeover by no less than seven additional clarinetists (six pictured here). Related charges included weaponization of the altissimo register, gratuitous use of Eb7, nearly a full octave above where the clarinet can or should be played safely (think 90s Mariah Carey… not good), discrimination against saxophonists in attendance, and aggressive use of background riffs to harass players into taking longer solos. It has been a long year, I have learned from my mistakes and I promise to try to be on my best behavior. I thank the musicians in advance for giving me another chance. ... See MoreSee Less
