PRETTY BABY (1916)
Composer: Tony Jackson
Verse added by Gus Kahn & Egbert Van Alstyne
About This Score:
This version reflects Tony Jackson's 16-bar ballad as published, but rhythms have been simplified.
The fifth stave (with asterisk) reflects a commonly used extension that does not appear in the published sheet music. Jelly Roll Morton performed it with this "tag" when he discussed Tony Jackson in his Library of Congress interview, which implies that it was likely composer's practice.
Performing the song in double-time feel is not common in New Orleans, but many bands have performed it in this manner.
