About This Music:

After the first duo collaboration for pianist Tom McDermott, Sanford Hinderlie and I discussed a "Clarinet Road" series of CDs. We agreed that the first needed to have a New Orleans theme. After all, where else would be a legitimate starting point for Clarinet Road?

I already had some nice tracks I'd recorded in California around 2001 with old friends including Chris Dawson on piano, but they weren't enough for a whole CD. Around this time, I had the wonderful revelation of the New Orleans string band tradition, in particular a band called the 6&7/8's String Band. So, I was inspired to create some tracks with this texture, no drums, no piano. Those were recorded in New Orleans.

In a somewhat raffiné chamber-music aesthetic, there's nothing too adventurous here. Nonetheless, the arrangements stay interesting with little twists, turns, forgotten parts of better-known songs, and occasional references to important recordings or nods to my favorite  players.
