About This Music:
Although this material wasn't released until 2012, it was actually recorded in Paris in 2006, when I was in residence following the flooding of New Orleans. I took the same rhythm section as the live recording from the Meridien Hotel into the studio along with a young pianist named Julian Brunetaud.
The collection of standards had a loose theme around Sidney Bechet who expatriated to Paris for the last decade of his life. Among the Bechet compositions is a song he never officially recorded, except for a piano demonstration someone captured of him at a party.
I don't recall why it took so long to release. I think other CD releases neccessitated pushing it out, but in the end, I was glad that Sandy Hinderlie thought it would be appropriate for the Clarinet Road series.
